Benjamin Levin, the former bigwig in Ontario’s ministry of education, was arrested in 2013 by the Toronto Police Service sex-crimes unit and charged with seven counts of child exploitation, including charges of possessing and accessing child pornography.  He pled guilty to three charges, and was convicted in March 2015, and sentenced to three years in prison.

He is now out on parole, and he is apparently busy online, following academic studies on porn and leaving comments that suggest he still doesn’t think he did anything wrong.

Levin served as the Deputy Minister for Education for the Province of Ontario for three years from 2004 to 2007 and again from 2008 to 2009, under then Education Minister Kathleen Wynne.  It is he would would have been responsible for both the 2010 curriculum and the even more problematic Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy, as he admitted in a 2009 memo.

As Premier McGuinty’s Education Minister, Kathleen Wynne introduced a sex education curriculum in 2010 that had to be withdrawn within days due to popular outcry.   Although McGuinty promised more extensive parental consultation to address the concerns, once she became Premier, Wynne implemented the same graphic curriculum without meaningful consultation in 2015.  This curriculum was 96% identical to the 2010 curriculum.

The clear depravity of the man responsible for so much of Ontario’s public sex-education ought to be sufficient for the whole strategy around sexual education to get another revision under a different government.
