Children are victims in the latest identity-driven culture war

The first question one asks upon being informed of the birth of a newborn child is ‘is it a boy or a girl’?

This innocuous question, often posed to joyful parents, is not unimportant.  The parents might not yet have assigned the child a name, but it does have a sex not assigned by them.  The child’s sex identifies him or her as having an ineradicable individuality, free from social determination.  Our individual personhood, and thus our freedom, is thus intimately bound up with our binary sexual nature.

Individual personal identity is the rock on which identity group politics must falter, which is precisely why establishing gender identity as a human right is so significant to them.

For those who wish to push the idea that human nature is fundamentally that of a herd animal, the attack is direct and the charge extraordinary.  Answering the question has been likened to child abuse.   The charge of ‘assigning a personal identity on the child at birth’ by identifying his or sex should not be taken seriously.  It is an act of linguistic subterfuge.

Grammar is now ground zero in the culture war.  Upon it, every individual right and freedom is at stake.

Individual children are the casualties in the latest foray into identity politics.
