To Inspire Young Communists, China Turns to ‘Red Army’ Schools

Like gender identity in the West, 'Even math classes are infused with party history.'

Nien Cheng, author of Life and Death in Shanghai, commented that among the worst of Mao’s cultural revolution in China was the way in which the demands of the total state alienated individuals from all familiar relations:

“One of the most ugly aspects of life in Communist China during the Mao Zedong era was the Party’s demand that people inform on each other routinely and denounce each other during political campaigns. This practice had a profoundly destructive effect on human relationships. Husbands and wives became guarded with each other, and parents were alienated from their children. The practice inhibited all forms of human contact, so that people no longer wanted to have friends. It also encouraged secretiveness and hypocrisy. To protect himself, a man had to keep his thoughts to himself. When he was compelled to speak, often lying was the only way to protect himself and his family.”

The failures of Communism and the growth of a huge underground church, as the Atlantic records, has led many in China to question its leadership.

Another cultural revolution against these ‘Western’ developments thus seems underway.  Unsurprisingly, it is centred in the schools.  What seems particularly noteworthy, from a Western perspective, is how similar the effect of these policies are to those being promoted by ‘progressive’ democracies in promoting ‘gender identity’.  As Dr. Jordan Peterson notes:

“Part of the reason I got embroiled in this [gender identity] controversy was because of what I know about how things went wrong in the Soviet Union. Many of the doctrines that underlie the legislation that I’ve been objecting to share structural similarities with the Marxist ideas that drove Soviet Communism.”
