And the Oscar for moral hypocrisy goes to … Hollywood!
Post-Harvey, the Academy Awards have changed. Pass the envelope, please!
The Greeks used the word hypocrites for an actor, someone who was under (hypo) the scrutiny (crites) of the audience.
Ever since Jesus used the word to excoriate the Pharisees, however, the word hypocrite has had the negative connotations of a person who is a dissembler, a pious fraud, or even a ‘plaster saint.’
It seems thus rather fitting for Rex Murphy to give the Academy Award for hypocrisy to the entire acting community of Hollywood, not only for turning a blind eye to a serial predator in their midst, Harvey Weinstein, who shared their politics, but for opposing President Donald Trump because they allegedly had no tolerance for his conduct towards women.
“Hollywood is possibly the only place on Earth where Hypocrisy is occasionally ashamed of itself.”
