A choice argument the left can’t win
Parental choice in education is important to conservatives because conservatives believe the family is the elementary unit of civil society
Cultural Marxist positions are to be found not only among the progressive, left-leaning political parties but very often among their conservative counterparts. The embrace of the progressive agenda in education is suicidal for Conservative political parties. The specious divide between economic and social conservatism must be rebuked for the fallacy it is. Without a foundation in the God-ordained family unit, there can be no long-term financial prudence.
‘Surely, the first principle – the litmus test if you will – for a conservative party at the provincial level is a commitment to parental choice in education. A conservative knows that the primary responsibility for the education of children must lie with parents. The first task of a provincial government, then, is to support that parental role.‘
But this is an argument that ought to be above party politics.
Modernity promised a culture above such divisions. It was meant to produce intellectually curious, rational, self-reliant, courageous individuals. But it is abundantly clear that it has produced an apathetic, hypersensitive, timid, conformist herd of identity groups warring against one another as if there were no common good.
