Teaching Humility in an Age of Arrogance
You can’t speak truth to power when power speaks truth by definition
The tyranny of relativism is pernicious precisely because it deceives its acolytes into concluding that we cannot know the truth, and explaining that appeals to truth are only a power play of the identity group in power. And rather than expose biases and foster humility, that unprincipled conviction fosters a strident and vulgar character.
Academia is chiefly responsible for allowing this amoral relativism to flourish, and the role that severing the academic enterprise from its foundational theological commitments about the nature of reality needs to be acknowledged. After all, man is not, as Protagoras claimed, ‘the measure of things.’
The author doesn’t go there, but a stimulating article nonetheless.
