Anti-democratic trends driving increased attacks on higher education worldwide

Reports of the suppression of academic freedom have grown increasingly common in the Western world where there are strong traditions of academic freedom.

They are happening in conjunction with opposition to the agenda of the radical left or to critics of  Islam.  This article by C2C journal attests to some such instances.

Around the world where these freedoms are less well established, the attacks are more openly violent.  The curtailing of freedom in the West points to a disturbing trajectory.

Scholars at Risk has released Free to Think 2017, an annual report analyzing 257 reported attacks on higher education communities in 35 countries, from September 1, 2016, to August 31, 2017.
