Andrea Mrozek: Ontario Botches Child Protection
Bill 89 and the gaps that Ontario's new child welfare law presents.
‘The best defence against the abuse of child welfare laws is to try to diminish the need for Children’s Aid Societies to ever get involved.’ The reality however is that the grounds for intervention have increased under this legislation to suit the ideological agenda of the government.
And its new criteria discriminate against the sorts of families that would historically been involved in adoptions.
With that in mind, this is a wholly counterproductive Bill.
