When you die you know you are dead

Major study shows mind still works after the body shows no signs of life

Every major religion claims that some sort of spiritual life continues beyond bodily death.

Only the absurd scientism of the twentieth century has resolutely denied this claim, more it seems to me out of a hysterical fear of oppression (at the very idea of God – a Deistic conception in the imagination of the intellectual elites) than out of any sense of logic.  They would rather see human nature as wholly material than acknowledge any vestige of transcendence, whether divine or human.

So consistent is this scientism that even the act of thinking is also dismissed as an epiphenomenological experience, akin to ‘the matrix’ in the film The Matrix.  That is, “I think I am thinking, but really I am only experiencing a chemical phosphorescence that deludes me into that belief.”  Quite why I would be thinking about thinking, and recognize that it is thinking I am thinking about eludes my capacity to understand.

For those who are not persuaded by anything like a logical argument about the necessary existence of a metaphysical realm, of God, or of ideas, perhaps these anecdotal experiences that the article recounts of people experiencing the effect of what we call consciousness might be persuasive.

But as Jesus noted, if people will not believe in what God has revealed to be true, they won’t be persuaded by miracles, even if a man should rise from the dead.

Thank God he has, and we have a better witness than these testimonies.  We have the word of a man who claimed to be God, and who rose from the dead, Jesus Christ.

The better question to ask though is how you can know you are alive when you are alive.

The answer in both cases is by a relationship with the author and Lord of life.
