Robert Fulford: If we’re to fight terrorism effectively we need to stop saying ‘Islamophobia’
Robert Fulford rightly observes that terminology like ‘Islamophobia’, invented by Muslim radicals themselves, might not be the best way to address the terrorism that they bring with them.
The term ‘Islamophobia’ has two main advantages:
1) It presents Muslims as a victimized group, which insures the support of political progressives who respond to that particular dog whistle like Pavlov’s dog.
2) At the same time, it encourages Muslims to feel that terrorism is justified because it is a defensive response.
That journalists have taken so long to realize this fact is extraordinary, but then the reason that it has been so successful is that identity group politics so confuses the discourse of public life in the West that reasoned action is virtually impossible.
