Wesley J. Smith: Illinois Compels MDs to Discuss ‘Benefits’ of Abortion

When a ‘compassionate’ state allows the sanctity of preborn life to be violated by the medical profession despite scientific evidence that it is fully human, as it has for decades, it is hardly surprising that no scientific basis exists to prevent the killing of adults either.

The sole remaining obstacle will be to kill any moral reservations amongst doctors that follow the science, i.e. their conscience.

The compassionate state frames abortion as a moral dilemma, a choice to be made between two options, neither of which resolves the situation in an ethically acceptable fashion. But it pretends that it is showing compassion by freeing its citizens to make that situational choice for themselves – after they have been given a thorough cost/benefits analysis.

Of course, it is only compassionate if the science isn’t clear, and the scientific evidence shows that human life begins at conception.

Having framed the matter as an irresolvable moral dilemma, the conscience of the compassionate state is sufficiently provoked to make cowards of all that oppose it.
