Tories promote the right to choose your own sex
Transgender reforms for birth certificates
All around the Western world, legislation is being produced on what is being called ‘gender identity’. This surd category would have been unknown outside the journals of radical sections of literary theory 10 years ago has attained sufficient acceptance in policy chambers to advance as if it could be accounted human rights legislation.
The problem didn’t begin 10 years ago. It happened when universities abandoned their Christian statements of faith, which effectively provided the tramlines of rational discourse on the nature of reality. Now man is, as the sophist Protagoras once declared, ‘the measure of all things.’
Critics like me have been forced to argue of the practical consequences of such decisions. We have warned that allowing people “in effect to “self-identify” as a member of the opposite sex, while maintaining the anatomy of their birth gender, would unleash a firestorm of legal cases over access to women-only hospital wards, prisons, lavatories, changing rooms and competitive sports.”
The reality is that intellectuals have fallen for arguments that should never have been allowed to advance in the humanities. They are so radical, that they redefine human nature itself.
And governments that advance it are effectively making the hard won legislation on women’s equality a thing of the past. Because the title has it right: allowing people to ‘self-identify’ on the basis of gender is destroying all the inherited social capital and legislation built up around the differences between the sexes.
This ‘choice’ given to people is advanced at enormous cost: the limitless power the state accords to itself to control its peoples’ lives.
It is making humanity, made in the image of God, into a figure of speech.
