It is difficult in the mainstream media landscape to get arguments across with any clarity, particularly on topics as politicized as the Islamic religion is.  But Muslim-Canadian Tarek Fatah is doing his best to bring to the attention of Canada’s Parliament the terrible unintended consequence of Islamophobia legislation for Muslims.

As has already been pointed out, any Bill on Islamophobia will place the Canadian government in the absurd position of outlawing the feelings of terror that Islamic terrorists intend to provoke.  It will also force the state to function as an Islamic religious council (or insinuate radical organizations like the Muslim Brotherhood into the Canadian government).

It will effectively muzzle freedom of speech in Canada.  And that includes any criticism of Islam by Muslims, which is a mortal danger in most of the world.

Fatah explains, “I hope to make the MPs realize that if they include the words ‘denouncing Islamophobia’ in their proposals, they will infringe on the inalienable right of Muslim Canadians to critique our religion as has been the rich tradition that has been stifled by Mullahs, Kings and Caliphs by murdering us.”
