Barbara Kay: Doctors who conscientiously object to providing euthanasia referrals should not be forced to do so

The reality of living in a culture such as ours, where euthanasia can be included under the category of healthcare, and killing can be termed compassion, is that in order to appear reasonable one must concede entirely immoral premises, and ask for exceptions to the rule to be made.  Such is Barbara Kay’s defence here.

But in truth, the act of killing is the very contradiction of the medical vocation.  To cross the boundary that government policy pushes physicians to is to make the doctor into a state-sponsored executioner.  Some might compare it to the act of a soldier.  But at least a soldier can refuse to follow an order against his conscience.

It is not only the infirm that are being killed in Canada.  Far worse is being done to the consciences of those upon whose integrity we depend, and history tells us that regimes that do that don’t stop there.
