What is sologamy and why are women doing it?

Now that marriage has been divested of all connotations save being a ‘close relationship’ in our secularized society, virtually any relationship fits the description.

‘Sologamy’ might, however, on one level be the most absurd.  Since what is already a unified thing cannot be ‘unified’, the term marriage is a category mistake.

All the same, it testifies to a felt need for social approval for lifestyle choices that belies the claim of autonomy.  In the end, people are social beings who want love and approval.  It is another illustration of how ‘choice’ alone cannot bear the ethical weight needed for human flourishing.
