“So many babies are being born dependent on opioids that the local hospital opened a special unit for them. So many people with addictions are getting arrested that the local jail has had to turn away would-be inmates.”

Much like the case that was made against Big Tobacco, the makers of OxyContin and Percocet are being sued for the damages that they have caused.

What is extraordinary is that while the public has managed to more or less rid itself of the demons of tobacco, seven worse demons have entered in its place – all supported and funded by the same regulatory forces.

While the financial payout for pursuing litigation against Big Pharma is clear, bigger questions must be asked about both the medical establishment and the public at large in its general shift towards libertarian views on what used to be taboo matters like drugs and sex.

There is a moral order to the universe that exists as a consequence of the character of the God who created it.  Without a return to Him, any solutions will be invitations to yet wider scenes of carnage.
