Incest is the next mark of progress

In the name of equality without distinction, now incest is being normalized

The practice of incest is the next sexual taboo being normalized by those posthumanist voices in the media who believe that human nature has no nature, and that progress can be measured by removing the ‘unexamined prejudices’ of the past.

The justification for all these development is the need to treat people with equality.  Equality under the law is a legitimate aspiration, but to assert that human beings are equal in essence only undermines what we mean by a ‘person’.  Are children exactly the same as adults? Are women exactly the same as men?  Is sex exactly the same as ‘gender’? Is procreative monogamy exactly the same as casual sex?

In all these questions, the biggest question is whether a person has a nature, and if so, is it something real, distinct, and unchanging, or is it subject to the whims and appetites of the autonomous self and an all-levelling notion of equality?

That is what it comes down to.  In order for there to be absolute equality, every mark that distinguishes human beings must make way.

Following the removal of the sanctions against sodomy, polyamory, sex with robots, dogging, (public sex) gender identification, etc., we see that a practice reviled throughout history emerging.

The matter will hardly surprise those who are paying attention to the news.  In Germany, there has been a push to legalize incest for some time from within the legal community.  At least as alarmingly, it has also been a regular feature of the exceptionally popular Game of Thrones, which seems to delight in pornography and all breaches of a normative ethics.

As Princeton Professor Robert P. George argues here , once marriage between a man and a woman loses its normative status, the logic that breached it inexorably leads to the embrace of polyamory and, even, the removal of legal sanctions against incestuous marriages.  After all, if marriage is a unique institution with a unique purpose, as has been acknowledged by civilized nations throughout human history, then ‘adding’ to it (as in the case of same-sex marriage) has the inevitable effect of subtraction.

We are now a society that thinks that marriage is a human construct, rather than a divinely-ordained institution.

Of course, in the name of equality, we might want to make the same argument for same-sex relatives.  This is precisely what is being suggested in Ireland.
