Can an 11-year old girl consent to sex?

It is scandalous that the question should even be posed.

Yet it is increasingly clear that a genuine public scandal cannot even occur.  That is because the hedges around moral conduct have been resolutely dismantled, and replaced with the ethics of autonomous choice.

Now that our society’s inherited concepts of human identity are gone, the Enlightenment idea of absolute autonomy is making once unthinkable questions a matter of open debate.

These debates aren’t the mock stuff of university societies either.

As I have argued here, the sex-ed curricula in the schools of Ontario are predicated on a child’s ability to assert consent (making autonomy the basis of sexual identity) from the beginning.  Since it is also clear that, in the eyes of the Cultural Marxists now setting public policy, parents have no legitimate authority over their own children – all being effectively property of the state – there is every reason why this question is being raised.
