Liberals’ Reverse Discrimination Comes at a Cost

The fact that people are different and that some differences are both natural and good is the first point that today’s progressives overlook.  Men don’t need to have their masculinity removed any more than women need to lose their femininity.

It is certainly true that inequality can be radically unjust.  This is precisely why individuals need equality before the law.

But the identity group politics that informs progressive policies not only seeks to eradicate natural and good differences among individuals, it actually treats individuals unjustly to meet some arbitrary, mathematical notion of equality that denigrates every individual.  And as, Margaret Wente observes, it also impedes the true excellence that ought to be the purpose of higher education.
